Jackson's allergic reaction

Last weekend, we had some scary times when Jackson had a sudden and relatively bad reaction to the antibiotics he was on for his ear infection. Amoxicillin is one of the most-used antibiotics out there, but some people DO have an allergy to it (including my cousin, Caroline). Sadly, there's no way to know if you're allergic until it happens. On Friday, Jackson woke up with a slight rash on his body. But by midnight, it had spread all over his body.

As it was coming close to his face, we decided to take him to Children's Hospital of Atlanta. There is truly no place I'd rather be with a sick child. A valet meets you at the emergency room exit and takes care of getting your stroller out and parking your car while you check in your child.

The front desk nurse was SO sweet to Jackson. She actually held him in her lap while she typed his information into the computer. He LOVED that since he could watch the computer screen. :-)

They quickly had him back into a room and changed into a gown. We thought he looked quite cute in it. (His favorite part was the strings on it, which he tried to eat, of course!)

You never would have known anything was wrong with Jackson from his attitude. He laughed and played with the nurses.

The doctor told us it was likely a reaction to the Amoxicillin. They gave him a hefty dose of Benedryl and said to come back if it got any worse or if we were nervous about anything.

On Saturday, his face continued to look worse with each passing hour, and by mid-afternoon, when his eye and lips starting puffing up, we decided to take him back to the hospital, even if it was just for our peace of mind.

Again, Jackson charmed the nurses, who were laughing and playing with him the whole time. The doctor said the hardest part of the whole thing is how bad Jackson looks, which of course, makes Mom & Dad scared. But he assured us that Jackson would be healthy very soon. He prescribed steroids for him, which would help his hives go away quicker.

The turnaround was amazing. This is how he looked at 9am on Sunday...

But by 3pm the SAME DAY, he was almost completely cleared up!

Again, Jackson hardly ever acted like he felt bad. Mommy & Daddy were just freaked out. But here's our little man by Sunday afternoon, bouncing away in his jumperoo. Love ya, little man!!
